OpenHome
iControl Networks is a company that has developed a software solution called OpenHome™ Software Platform. OpenHome™ grants customers the power to access and control their home’s security systems and other features using the Internet capabilities installed in their homes (iControl Networks Powers, 2011). The platform makes it possible for customers to maintain a safe lifestyle in which they control their homes using computers, cell phones, or touchpads (Computer Networks, 2011).
iControl Networks has undergone vast expansion through partnerships with multiple other companies and offers Internet Protocol-enabled security, long-distance management via remotes with simple interfaces, and live video feeds of a home that are viewable on cellular devices or other Internet routers. The Architecture for the Digital World explains that customers can also access features of OpenHome™ such as remote control of security systems, thermostats, lighting, and email or text reports to keep connected and aware of what is happening at any given moment in their homes (2011).
There are two types of OpenHome™: Converge and Connect. OpenHome™ Converge consists of a touch screen tablet and security panel that is used with a variety of Wifi or cable Internet services (OpenHome: Interactive Home, 2011). According to iControl Networks Inc., OpenHome™ Converge integrates the most advanced security control provider’s panels with Wifi, Z-Wave, and Zigbee technologies.
